The Grand Curiopening!

And so it begins...

March the First has arrived and, as planned, it is time for the Curionomastics Kick-Off!

Let me explain…

Curionomastics is my attempt at a creative description for my curiosity about fascinating people with intriguing or wonderful names. At least, that’s how it started out, but as I began to create content for this blog, it has expanded into something that will encompass a multifaceted view of onomastics, or the study of names.

As a writer, one of my favorite things to do when planning out my stories and novels, is to name my characters. I do not have any set routine for doing so, nor do I stick to one genre when writing, so I like to make up my own names just as much as researching names that already exist. That being said, I’ve known many writers that struggle with naming their characters, and I would be more than happy to help you with yours. Please feel free to email me at Tee@teelafrancetodd.com or DM me on Twitter (I’m TeeLaFranceTodd) if you would like me to suggest names for any of your unnamed characters for stories, games, etc. I will not, however, name your baby, so don’t be tricksy.

With the myriad of baby name sites out there, Curionomastics is definitely not going to be another one. I do not aim to give advice about naming your child or future children. I will not be highlighting a name of the day or discussing gendered names. Rather, I will be showcasing individuals with unique and rhythmic names, outlining their major accomplishments, and providing information about their names.

I will post a Sunday Spotlight each week, which is exactly what I described above: a post on a person that was chosen because they are a ‘colorful character with a compelling cognomen.’ These posts will be brief but hopefully informative and interesting.

At another point or points during the week, I will put out tidbits about things named after people, naming practices, the history of certain names, meanings of names, people with the same names, etc. I don’t want to get too detailed here, because I do not want to ruin any surprises, and because these interim posts, as I call them, keep evolving.

So be prepared for the first Spotlight this Sunday! Here’s a hint on who it will be: He wore crimson hosiery during the most impressive parts of his career. Can you guess who it is?

And don’t forget to subscribe so you don’t miss any of my posts!
